A powerful overnight storm has led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport — the world’s busiest airport — just as the Fourth of July travel surge begins.
As of early Saturday afternoon, more than 450 flights in and out of Atlanta had been canceled, with hundreds more facing delays, according to data from Flight aware.
Delta Air Lines, which operates its main hub at the Atlanta airport, has been hit the hardest. The airline has canceled 14% of its total flights, FlightAware reported.
In a statement to CNN, Delta said it is “working to safely restore operations and assist customers impacted by the severe storms at our Atlanta hub Friday night.”
